2024 Paris Olympic Games

2024 Paris Olympic Games

100 years after the 1924 Paris Olympic Games and 124 years after the 1900 edition, the French capital is preparing to the hold the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games for the third time.

At this 33th Olympiad, the City of Lights will host 10,500 athletes across 41 competition sites in the Paris region, French mainland and French overseas territories. This will be the first ever gender-equal edition of the Games, bringing together a total of 5,550 women and men.

Paris 2024 will also set new records, holding 329 events in total, more than any other edition. These 329 events include 22 paralympic sports and eight new events:

  • A new mixed-gender athletics event (to replace the 50 km race walk)
  • A new weight category for women’s boxing (to replace a weight category in men’s boxing)
  • Two new extreme canoe slalom events (to replace two canoe sprint events)
  • Three new mixed sailing events, including mixed kite foiling and the mixed 470 (to replace the men’s and women’s 470 events and the men’s Finn event). The third event could be mixed offshore racing (its introduction to the programme is subject to additional studies on costs and athlete safety and security, with results due to be published on 31 May).
  • A new mixed-team Skeet event (to replace the mixed team Trap event)

Finally, Paris 2024 will see 150,000 jobs created following the Games, some 9,000 trees planted at the Olympic Village, nearly 4 billion viewers and an influx of over 15 million tourists and supporters.

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games offer an incredible showcase for France’s businesses and are an opportunity to promote France’s experience and expertise in producing sports events on home soil.
